COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An investigation by Ohio's inspector general says a state employee played golf when his time sheets said he was working.
Ohio Inspector General Tom Charles found that Industrial Commission of Ohio Supervisor Myron Downard received $1,300 in state pay for time he was golfing.
Downard began work at the commission in 1983 and retired effective Oct. 17. He announced his resignation on Sept. 17; the day after the inspector general first interviewed him.
The investigation began when another employee believed Downard wasn't working the full amount of time reflected on time sheets. The inspector general learned that Downard was an avid golfer, and was able to obtain records showing that Downard posted scores online at times he was supposed to be working.
