COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Faced with an $851 million budget hole, Ohio lawmakers could soon decide on a plan to fill the gap.
The House already passed Gov. Ted Strickland's proposal to delay a 4.2 percent income tax to make up the difference in the budget.
The Republican-controlled Senate must decide if it will go along with the tax cut delay or push for a new solution.
Earlier Tuesday, House Republicans urged their Senate colleagues and Democrats to focus on cost containment rather than delaying the tax cut.
"People are being paid less, even if they're still employed and I think we all know that. So to ask for more and to ask to reverse a trend that was appropriately started I think is a real mistake," said Rep. Seth Morgan.
There is no word yet on what Senate Republicans might propose as an alternative.
The Senate is in session Wednesday, when a vote could take place.
