COLUMBUS, Ohio -- More than 50 students from Columbus' Easthaven Elementary School were on hand as Time Warner Cable announced a national five-year commitment of $100,000,000 of cash and donated resources to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and technology.
Time Warner Cable is joining forces with COSI to help change the way students view science and math. Ohio and COSI will receive $11 million from Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds initiative.
Eighty percent of jobs created in the next decade will require math and science skills, according to TWC VP of Communications Judy Barbao.
She says 84 percent of middle-school students say they'd rather clean their rooms, eat vegetables, go to the dentist or take out the garbage than learn math or science.
COSI presented several fun, hands-on demonstrations to show the students that math and science can be fun.
Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) will provide grants to organizations that produce stimulating, high-quality and affordable afterschool science and technology learning.
COSI will run a series of after-school science experiences at Gladden Community House beginning in January.
TWC will also produce public service announcements and online resource kids and parents can use to find kid-centric learning opportunities.
