COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Televisions in today's market have become an expensive investment, one that you don't want to make often.
However, some consumers are finding out the hard way that not all televisions are built to last.
TV repairman Chuck Keller receives many calls from customers about their LCD TVs not working properly, and many times they don't like his response.
"Throw it out and go buy a new one," Keller tells them.
He says though the televisions look nice, many times the parts they are made from don't last very long.
Since a lot of the materials are made in foreign countries, such as China, spare parts are hard to come by.
According to experts, LCD TVs are more sensitive than plasma TVs, and the difference is how the screens are made.
However, home-theater specialist Miguel Lopez said you shouldn't write off the LCD TVs just yet.
"It's not buyer beware, it's buyer be conscious about what you buy," he says.
Lopez recommends consumers purchase the extra protection plan many electronic stores offer for an additional price that guarantee the product will work perfectly for a certain period of time.
Even the repairman thinks these warranties are a good idea
Keller would never have told his customers to buy an extended warranty 15 years ago.
"They lasted. You didn't really need an extended warranty. Maybe for an adjustment. But nowadays people come in with a 2- to 3-year-old TV LCD panel that fails, that costs more than the TV."
But for consumers who don't purchase the extended warranty, they could be out of luck later down the road.
