COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Three men forced their way into a West Side home, demanded items and opened fire, police said.

Columbus police said three suspects forced their way into a home on North Westgate Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
The suspects were armed with guns and demanded items from 46-year-old Pedro Cruz, police said.
At least one of the suspects began firing his weapon at Cruz; Cruz retrieved his handgun and returned fire, police said.
The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
Cruz suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital.
Police arrested 20-year-old Jazz Svarda in connection with the shooting. Svarda also was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound.
Svarda was charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault.
