Study: Moderate Alcohol Consumption Helps Heart

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Researchers in Spain say men who drink six beers a day or an entire bottle of wine cut their chance of getting heart disease by more than half.

The study focused on alcohol consumption and heart disease and was one of the largest of its kind.

Researchers say they found the protective effects of alcohol weren’t diminished in people who drank moderately or even to the point of over consumption.

The study was published in the journal Heart and studied 15,000 men and 26,000 women ages 29 to 69 for 10 years.

The results of the study showed that those who drank a little—a glass of wine or a bottle of beer—every other day had a 35 percent lower chance of a heart attack than those who never drank.

Moderate drinkers consuming up to a couple glasses of wine or a couple pints of beer per day had a 54 percent lower risk.
