FSU Board Chairman Resigns After Apology

FAIRMONT, W.Va.
The chairman of Fairmont State University's Board of Governors has resigned after apologizing for an incident involving his son's playing time during a recent
university football game.

The university announced that Andy Kniceley resigned from the board Friday.

On Thursday, Kniceley issued an apology to Fairmont assistant coach Gary Lanham, the school and the board in a story posted on the Times West Virginian's Web site. Kniceley is also the Fairmont newspaper's publisher.

The apology stemmed from an Oct. 31 after-game incident where Kniceley confronted Lanham over why his son only had three minutes of playing time during the game.

A police officer and Kniceley's son broke up the incident. No charges have been filed.

Kniceley said his comments were made as a concerned parent, and not as the chairman of the school's board.
