MT. GILEAD, Ohio – The Mt. Gilead Post of The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a serious-injury vehicle crash that occurred late Saturday night just after 10:30 p.m.
Authorities tell NBC 4 19-year-old Leah Schwaderer was traveling westbound on Township Road 51 near State Route 61 when she failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle drove off of the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.
Schwaderer was transported to the Morrow County Hospital and later flown to Grant Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. Schwaderer’s passenger, 19-year-old Emilia Sheibley, was also injured in the crash and was later flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Sheibley died from her injuries Sunday.
Reports say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
