WILMINGTON, Ohio -- A project helping people grow their own food in an Ohio community stung hard by the recession has won a $20,000 prize.
"Grow Food, Grow Hope" in Wilmington is one of five nonprofit programs rewarded by Tom's of Maine, a maker of natural personal care products.
The company says it received more than 2,000 applications from all the states for its "50 States for Good" initiative to honor organizations that make a difference in their local communities.
Wilmington is the city in southwest Ohio that has lost thousands of jobs due to the pullout of a major DHL Express shipping operation.
Tom's of Maine says its other winners came from Texas, California, North Carolina and Washington, D.C.
