LITHOPOLIS, Ohio -- A Fairfield County sheriff's cruiser was involved in a crash that killed one person Saturday night.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Fairfield County dispatchers indicated a mechanic was driving the cruiser, which was not involved in active duty at the time of the crash. The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m.
The cruiser was being driven on Lithopolis-Winchester Road, near Waterloo Road, when an oncoming vehicle allegedly crossed the center line and hit the cruiser head-on.
Authorities said the mechanic might have been taking the cruiser to Canal Winchester, where Fairfield deputies use cruisers purchased by the city to patrol the local streets.
Law enforcement said a passenger was in the cruiser, too.
The driver of the second vehicle and the mechanic and his passenger in the cruiser were taken to Grant Medical Center.
The driver of the second vehicle died at Grant, according to authorities.
No more immediate information was available, and the crash remained under investigation.
