FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio -- More than a dozen suspects were arrested on drug trafficking charges last week, and a jury returned six indictments Friday.

The Franklin County sheriff's office initiated investigations in the Worthington and north metropolitan areas of Franklin County. The investigations resulted in securing multiple arrest warrants for individuals who allegedly were trafficking heroin and other dangerous drugs.
Authorities arrested 13 suspects Thursday, Sept. 24; 19 warrants were served.
The Franklin County Grand Jury returned indictments on these suspects Friday: Shane Smeltzer, Russell Conlon, Jason Huffer, Trenton Radford, Jan Byers and Tyler Shively.
The charges included aggravated trafficking, trafficking cocaine and trafficking marijuana.
According to County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien, all of the indictments (with exception of Shively) have school specifications. That indicates some of the trafficking allegedly occurred within 1,000 feet of school property, specifically Liberty Elementary school and Dublin Scioto High School.
All of the indictments (except Shively’s) include third-degree or high felony charges, which carry mandatory prison time.
The others who were arrested in the sweep were to be considered for Grand Jury presentation at a later date, after the results of lab tests are received.
Arraignments for the indicted individuals were set for 1 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.
