COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ground was broken Monday for a new Franklin County animal shelter.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
The new shelter will replace the one that is currently located on Alum Creek Drive on the city’s Southeast Side.
The new shelter will be a $16-million facility.
It will be called the Franklin County Animal Care and Control Dog Shelter and Adoption Center.
It will be built at the site of the former Northland Mall movie theatre, off of Morse Road, on the city's North Side.
It will shelter 421 dogs at maximum capacity; the current shelter houses about 200 dogs.
The new facility will open in late 2010.
County Commissioner Paula Brooks said the shelter is a good use of county money.
It will be the largest animal shelter in the state.
