COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Officials say a Web service offering Ohio educational, cultural and civic material is so popular it has reached the 1 million download mark. "Ohio on iTunes U" is part of a program launched by Apple Inc. in 2007 through its iTunes online music store as a free resource for students, teachers and others.
Officials say Ohio was the first state to have a comprehensive site through Apple's iTunes U initiative. Ohio on iTunes U launched in February and recently notched 1 million downloads of educational clips offered by universities, museums and government agencies. Ohio higher education Chancellor Eric Fingerhut says in a statement that the site is allowing the state to engage new audiences with digital resources.
