STOCKHOLM
One of today's winners of the 2009 Nobel Prize in chemistry earned a Ph.D. from Ohio University.

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is an American born in India who is now a senior scientist with the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England. The lab's Web site says he earned a doctorate in physics from OU in 1976.

Ramakrishnan was honored with two other scientists for their work to map the atoms of ribosomes, the protein-making factories within cells.
