Cleveland Transit Police Get 3 Bomb-Sniffing Dogs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland's transit police have acquired three dogs trained to sniff for bombs along the area's bus and train system.

The newest members of the Regional Transit Authority's K-9 force have arrived amid new terrorism concerns. The federal government has warned transit systems to be on alert following the arrest of a Denver airport shuttle driver suspected in a bombing plot possibly targeting trains in the New York City area.

RTA Police Chief John Joyce says people may think Cleveland is safe, but no one thought Oklahoma City was a target.

Three RTA transit officers have gone to San Antonio, Texas, for 10 weeks of training on handling the dogs. The course is run by the Transportation Security Administration, which uses bomb-sniffing dogs at airports.
