COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus Arts and Technology Academy closed Friday because a substantial amount of staff and students were sick.
Workers spent the day cleaning and sanitizing the entire building.
Letters posted on both main entrance doors state the school is trying to prevent the spread of the flu. The letter also stated that the school would reopen Monday, October 19.
Workers cleaning the building wore face masks and gloves and said they couldn't comment on the school closure.
Earlier this week, Great Western Academy closed because of illness, but did not say whether it was due to H1N1.
The Ohio Department of Education says it's up to each school district whether or not to close because of the flu. There is no clear cut requirement that affects schools statewide.
Twelve school districts in Franklin County plan to participate in H1N1 vaccination clinics.
Parents will be able to sign up their children for the clinics, which could take place in early November.
The districts are working with the Franklin County Board of Health to organize the clinics.
Each school district has information about H1N1 on their web sites.
Prevention includes keeping sick children home from school and to not let them return to class until their fevers have been gone for at least 24 hours. Health officials encourage parents to treat H1N1 much like the seasonal flu with plenty of fluids and rest. They should only go to the hospital if they have trouble breathing or continue to vomit.
