H1N1 Prevention: The Fist And Elbow Bump?

»  Comments | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- This may be a case of out with the old and in with the new, as Central Ohioans are using other extremities to greet each other.

The fist and/or elbow bump is being widely used to say hello instead of the traditional hand shake.

Health officials affirm that shaking hands is a very common way for someone to get infected with a cold or flu. As H1N1 cases increase worldwide, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman has been seen fist and elbow bumping, along with Ohio State Football Head Coach Jim Tressel.

The Columbus Public Health Department encourages you to wash your hands frequently.

At the health department, officials shy away from shaking hands and have transitioned to the fist/elbow bump greeting.
