COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The H1N1 vaccine continues to be in high demand.
More than 600 pregnant women from Central Ohio received their H1N1 vaccines yesterday at the Columbus Public Health Department in just three hours.
"Since 9/11 we've been practicing for mass vaccinations clinics. Fortunately we did have a little bit of experience. So we feel ready," said CPH's Jose Rodriguez.
Recently another 2,300 vaccines were given to health-care provider, pregnant women, and caregivers to children younger than 6 months.
Friday, the Ohio Department of Health announced it ordered more doses of the vaccine, which will mean the next high-risk category will get the
vaccine: children with underlying medical conditions such as asthma.
The Columbus Public Health Department will continue to monitor places, such as pharmacies and hospitals, to see how many cases of H1N1 come in.
Officials will also take a close look at school absences.
According to CPH, this is the seventh straight week that school absences have gone up due to sickness.
"We do know that flu is widespread in the community so we're encouraging you to wash your hands, stay home if you're sick, cover your cough, get a flu shot as soon as your category or sub group become available," Rodriguez said.
