COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A woman and a Columbus police SWAT officer were injured Wednesday when the officer hit a deer and crashed into another vehicle.
The crash occurred at about 9 p.m. on Interstate 70 at Hamilton Road. Eastbound I-70 was closed at James and westbound lanes were closed at Interstate 270. The freeway reopened at about 1:15 a.m.
An on-duty Columbus police SWAT officer was traveling eastbound on I-70 in an SUV when he hit a deer, which sent him across the median into the westbound traffic, hitting another vehicle head on.
The female driver of the other car was pinned in her vehicle for about 10 minutes before being taken to the hospital.
The officer and female driver were taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
Columbus police are investigating.
