Man Pleads Guilty To Shooting Officer In Face

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CLEVELAND - A man has pleaded guilty in the death of a suburban Cleveland police officer who was shot in the face when he stepped from his cruiser to respond to a street fight.

Twenty-nine-year-old Timothy Halton Jr. entered the plea in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Friday to the May 2007 aggravated murder of Cleveland Heights officer Jason West.

Under a plea deal, prosecutors dropped a death penalty request and Halton will instead spend the rest of his life in prison without the chance for parole.

Police have said Halton fired shots from a car, got out and shot the 31-year-old West again, then broke into a nearby house before he was arrested.

Prosecutors have said Halton has a history of mental problems.
