COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Central Ohio restaurants and grocery stores are in trouble with the health department.
All appeared before the health board, accused of unsanitary behavior that could make patrons sick.
Health inspectors met with the owners of Cenaduria Karla on Sullivant Avenue in June. They found seven violations of the health code, including employees touching food with their bare hands.
Food was not protected from cross-contamination and food preparation surfaces were dirty.
Johnson's Discount Market on Lockbourne Road had eight critical violations in the store, health officials said.
The owners were cited for not keeping food at proper temperatures, not discarding unsafe food properly and inspectors found the presence of pests like rodents or insects in the building.
Goody Boys Corporation on North High Street had nine critical violations when inspected in July.
Inspectors saw employees with unacceptable beverage containers and found employees using gloves for more than one task or not changing them at all.
Health officials also said food was not discarded by the date mark.
The hearings Wednesday morning were just a review of the violations. The business owners will return for their official hearings with the health board on Sept. 15.
