COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A CPD veteran was honored Wednesday for his service and dedication.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers and FOP Capital City Lodge No. 9 recognized Columbus police Officer Jim Scanlon as the recipient of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for the month of September.
Scanlon is a 31-year veteran Columbus police officer and currently is assigned to the Special Services Bureau.
Scanlon has been a member of the Columbus SWAT Team for more than 17 years and prior to that was a K-9 handler for six years.
Scanlon has established himself as an expert in tactical operations and officer safety related training.
He has traveled all around the United States, training more than 5,000 police officers.
He is a decorated officer and has received numerous awards from within the Division and the community he serves.
Scanlon was honored Wednesday morning at Florentine Restaurant.
