Donated Renovations Help Make Ohio House A Home

»  Comments | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jackie Pannell spent four years homeless, with the road a place to sleep and a BP gas station her bathroom. She now sleeps in blue-and-white-checked bedding in a room with new carpet, paint and flowers. A chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers this week completed a month-long renovation of the nonprofit transitional home where 54-year-old Pannell stays.

More than 100 design and construction industries donated about $180,000 in goods and services create the cozy quarters. The plywood flooring was finished and carpeted, and exposed brick replaced by yellow walls and modern artwork. Pannell calls it a blessing. Having achieved sobriety, she moved into the house from a homeless shelter, her next step is to move into her own, subsidized apartment.
