COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Stimulus dollars are helping to alert Central Ohio college students to the warning signs for abusive relationships.
The Franklin County Commissioners presented a check for $34,466 to the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence. The group runs the web site www.itsabuse.com, which targets college students who may be tolerating physical, verbal or emotional abuse because of a lack of dating experience.
"Sometimes, when it's your first time away from home in particular, there's a real vulnerability to relationships that just aren't working," said Commissioner Paula Brooks.
Central Ohio has 130,000 college students, and the new funding will help extend the anti-abuse campaign to the Mount Carmel School of Nursing. The fourth-year program already covers students at Ohio State University, Capital University, DeVry, and Columbus State Community College.
