COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There won't be handshaking or drinking from the Communion cup at one Ohio church due to H1N1 concerns.
St. Veronica Catholic Church in Cincinnati is one church altering its mass.
At this time, The Catholic Diocese of Columbus has not recommended any changes to the practices in the liturgy.
The Diocese of Columbus continues to monitor the H1N1 situation and is working with Mount Carmel Medical Center to keep parishes up-to-date on how to handle pandemic flu and hygiene.
Father Larry Rice with the Newman Center at OSU says there are concerns about H1N1.
The Newman Center is the Roman Catholic Catholic Campus Ministry at The Ohio State University.
"Particularly here on campus at Ohio State we're concerned because they tell us this is a very vulnerable population. But I also think it's important not to overreact," said Father Rice.
The Newman Center hasn't made any changes to mass, but Father Rice says parishioners can choose to opt out of some of the practices, such as handshaking, if they feel it is necessary.
He explains the most important things to remember are to stay at home if you are sick and to stay at home if you are caring for someone who is sick.
However, the Newman Center's policies could change if H1N1 does become a big problem on campus.
