LANCASTER, Ohio -- An inmate at the Fairfield County Jail is accused of bringing heroin into the facility.
According to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, jail staff received information that Joseph Michael Miller, 23, of Lancaster, had heroin while in his jail cell.
A search of his cell was conducted Saturday and jail staff confiscated eight balloons of heroin.
Upon arriving at the prisoner's cell, officers discovered the prisoner sitting on the toilet attempting to retrieve the balloons of heroin from his stool.
The prisoner resisted officers and was forcibly removed from the cell and subsequently restrained and handcuffed.
Upon questioning, the prisoner admitted that the balloons contained heroin and that he had swallowed the balloons at the time of his arrest, prior to being booked into jail.
A chemical field test conducted on the balloons indicated that the substance contained in the balloons was heroin.
Criminal charges of conveying felony contraband into a detention facility, a Felony 3, punishable by up to 5 years confinement and $10,000 fine, and possession of felony drugs -- heroin, a Felony 4, punishable by up to 18 months confinement and $5,000 fine, have been filed.
