It’s no secret that many charities are struggling in this down economy—with increasing demand for services and fewer cash donations.
But experts say there are plenty of creative ways to help the needy that doesn’t involve spending your own money.
One of the most important parts of charities is volunteers. Many non-profits say offering your time can make a world of difference.
Bill Moran is the president of Food and Friends, a non-profit that delivers food to those with life threatening illnesses.
“A lot of organizations just need manpower,” says Moran. “See what it is that you yourself can do. I mean, again, a lot of organizations just need manpower, whether it’s serving meals, delivering meals…(thinking) outside the box—what is it you have expertise in.”
Often times, bakeries or groceries will throw away food as it nears its expiration date. But much of it can still be used at food banks if someone is able to stop by and ask.
Your time can make a big impact.
