COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man who was found inside a flaming van Wednesday night died from his injuries Friday.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Russell Cordle Jr., 33, died from his injuries Friday at OSU Medical Center Main, according to the Franklin County coroner’s office.
Lancaster police responded to a 911 call reporting a van on fire at the Speedway gas station at 1470 E. Main St. shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
As fire crews put out the fire flames, they found a man inside the van’s front compartment, police said.
Cordle was transported to Fairfield Medical Center and then to OSU Medical Center with burns on more than 90 percent of his body.
Fire and police officials continue to investigate the fire but said they believe Cordle himself might have set the fire.
Surveillance video from the area showed Cordle enter the gas station, prepay for five gallons of gas, buy a pack of Marlboro Lights and then exit the station.
Video showed Cordle pumping gasoline into the van’s passenger-side window. Cordle got back into the van and lit a cigarette.
Police ruled the fire as arson and continued to investigate.
