COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Supreme Court has ordered the state's top elections official to decide within seven days whether state Senator Jon Husted legally resides in his Dayton-area district.
The high court's ruling Monday comes on Husted's request that Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner be forced to decide immediately. Husted, the former Ohio House speaker, has faced questions about whether he lives in the Dayton suburbs. That's where he's registered to vote.
Husted says that home is his legal residence but acknowledges he often stays with his wife at her Columbus home. Brunner said Husted's case is unusual, but she will move expeditiously to issue a fair decision. Husted is running as a Republican for secretary of state next year. Brunner is a Democrat running for U.S. Senate.
