COLUMBUS, Ohio -- We're just about a week away from yet another school year at The Ohio State University, but this year students will have a number of new things to look forward to and also a number of things to watch out for.
OSU officials expect 5,000 to 6,000 students to move in on Sunday, with 500 more incoming freshmen in the fall quarter compared to last year.
Of the incoming freshmen class, 18 percent of incoming freshmen are from out of state or are international students.
Fifty-two percent of the incoming freshmen class are male, and 48 percent are female.
This year, students will be met with a brand-new library and an $8 million renovated dorm on Lane Avenue.
The 449 students staying in the dorm will benefit from the old Holiday Inn hotel having their own private bathrooms, a dream for germ-conscious college students.
The most important item on today's agenda during an OSU press conference is the possible spread of H1N1 virus.
In fact, during the spring quarter a total of seven students had the virus, something Roger Miller with OSU Student Health Services hopes to prevent by education and vaccination.
"Students that are coming to campus this fall, we are recommending that they come to campus equipped with thermometers, tissues, hand sanitizer -- anything that will reduce the spread of germs," Miller said.
Ohio State health officials are encouraging students to get their flu shots and also the H1N1 vaccination, which will be in Columbus by mid-October.
