COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man died from a shot wound to the head after armed suspects invaded an apartment overnight, police said.
NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported with the FAST FACTS.
Columbus police were called to an apparent home invasion in the 4600 block of Refugee Road.
Two suspects kicked in the Southeast Side apartment’s front door at about 2:30 a.m., according to police.
A couple with a newborn baby was asleep in the living room, and another couple was in a back bedroom.
The suspects came in and pointed guns at the victims in the living room, police said.
The couple in the back heard the suspects breaking in and held the bedroom door shut.
One of the suspects fired a shot through the door, hitting a male victim in the head, authorities said.
Authorities later identified the victim as 21-year-old Cleo Robinson.
The suspects fled the scene without ever saying a word, police said.
Cleo was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
He died at the hospital before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The home-invasion victims didn’t want to speak on camera, but the baby boy’s mother told Brockman both men barged in with guns drawn. She said she pleaded with the men to not hurt her baby.
CPD continued to investigate but didn't have a motive currently.
Both suspects remained at large Wednesday morning. Witnesses described the suspects as black males.
Anyone with information was encouraged to call CPD’s homicide squad at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS or (8477).
No more immediate information was available.
