COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man pleads and is sentenced Wednesday after a woman’s body was found in an East Side dumpster in April 2008.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Leon Turner, 59, pleaded guilty to a murder charge and was sentenced to 18 years to life in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

The body of 33-year-old Heather Staunton was found wrapped in plastic bags in a dumpster in an alley near Livingston Avenue and James Road Thursday, April 3, 2008.

Staunton was fatally shot inside an apartment on South James Road. Police said her body later was transported to the dumpster.

A woman, who was going through the dumpster, discovered the body and went to a nearby McDonald's to call police, Newsome reported.

Columbus police arrested Turner and charged him with Staunton’s murder the same day the body was found. Police said he made incriminating statements after his arrest.

Turner was given a 15-years-to-life sentence for the murder with a 3-year gun specification.
