COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has appointed a permanent director of the Department of Development, a state agency that has lacked a full-time leader since Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher resigned in February to run for the U.S. Senate.
Strickland on Wednesday appointed Lisa Patt-McDaniel, who has served as the agency's interim director for four months. The 44-year-old is the first woman to head the department.
Patt-McDaniel took over in May after Mark Barbash, Strickland's first choice to be interim director, stepped down in the wake of a report that he owed more than $150,000 in federal and state taxes.
Republicans have criticized Strickland for not naming a permanent director as Ohio has continued to shed jobs during the recession.
