Hazelton Inmate Convicted In Maiming, Assault

CLARKSBURG, W.Va.
A federal inmate has been convicted of maiming and disfiguring a fellow prisoner by dousing him with scalding water that contained a caustic substance.

Forty-eight-year-old Andre Ganeous was convicted Thursday in U.S. District Court in Clarksburg.

U.S. Attorney Sharon Potter says the attack on the unidentified victim occurred Oct. 7, 2008, at the U.S. Penitentiary at Hazelton.

Ganeous was also convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon.

He could spend as much as 30 more years behind bars - up to 20 on the maiming conviction and up to 10 for the assault.
