COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Authorities said a man was fatally shot outside of a Southeast Side billiards hall, and police asked the public for tips to help solve the homicide.
NBC 4’s Mike Jackson got answers in this week’s Central Ohio Crime Stoppers report.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Cornfed Red’s Billiard Café, at 5005 Chatterton Rd., at about 2:04 a.m. May 9, 2009, on reports of a man with a firearm.
Deputies found 21-year-old Johnny Bell on the ground in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds to his torso and face.
A medic was called to the scene and transported Bell to Grant Medical Center. Bell died at the hospital.
While deputies were processing the Chatterton Road scene, they learned a second shooting victim was being treated at Mount Carmel East Medical Center.
“There were, literally, 100 people in the parking lot. We're quite certain that there’s at least one or two or three people who saw exactly what happened,” Sgt. Bill Duffer said.
The strongest lead authorities have is the suspect description: The suspect was described as a black male who is about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall. His hair was in braids, and he was wearing dark clothing. His nickname is “Meat.”
Crime Stoppers has posted a reward of much as $2,000 for any information received by Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the persons responsible for the crime.
Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477) or e-mail at www.stopcrime.org. You also can text a tip to “CRIMES” or 274637 with a keyword of TIP125.
