NEWARK, Ohio -- Fire destroyed a three-story barn in downtown Newark Monday morning.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Newark fire was called out to South 6th and West Railroad streets before 8:30 a.m. on reports of a shed fire.
The location is near railroad tracks.
Asst. Chief John Clouse said the large barn was involved totally when firefighters arrived.
Fire crews first needed to protect surrounding buildings from catching fire.
Getting water to the flaming barn was difficult because of the houses and power lines in the back, the buildings on the east and west and some railroad cars, Clouse said.
Newark fire called in all of its city units and neighboring Heath fire department.
There wasn’t any word on what was inside the barn before the fire.
There was some damage, melted siding, to nearby structures.
Clouse said it was the largest fire the department has seen in about six or seven months.
