EAST LIBERTY, Ohio -- Officials continue to search for the man whose home was destroyed in a fire Monday morning -- naming him as a person of interest in the case.
Monday evening, authorities with the state Fire Marshal's office and Logan County Sheriff's office said they were looking for 38-year-old Wesley Helfenstine.
Helfenstine is the only resident of a home at 10975 Township Road 157 that caught fire at about 5 a.m. Officials said he has not returned to his home since the fire.
According to investigators, Helfenstine's family members were able to make contact with him Monday evening. However, he would not agree to speak with authorities and has once again disappeared.
Investigators confirm that family members are assisting in trying to locate Helfenstine.
Helfenstine is now a person of interest in the case and investigators are seeking information on his whereabouts.
Anyone who has information about Wesley Helfenstine is asked to call the fire marshal at 800-589-2728 or the Logan County sheriff at 800-543-4185.
It is possible that Helfenstine is hiding in the woods near his home.
The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
