COLUMBUS -- A Pataskala man who gave marijuana to his 2-year-old niece was sentenced Tuesday on several drug-related charges, including giving drugs to a minor.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Melvin Blevins, 19, was sentenced in United States District Court to 10 years imprisonment.
Blevins pleaded guilty Thursday, March 26, 2009, to a three-count indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms marijuana, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and distribution of less than 5 five grams of marijuana to a person younger than 21.
The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Michael Watson.
Blevins assisted Donald Dailey, the leader of a large-scale marijuana trafficking organization, on a number of occasions, from January 1, 2008, through March 14, 2008.
Blevins and others unloaded bails of marijuana at Dailey’s house in Pataskala. Blevins assisted in unloading more than 1,000 but less than 3,000 kilograms of marijuana.
On at least one occasion, Blevins acted as counter-surveillance for Dailey and followed an undercover agent investigating the case for an extended period of time.
In January of 2008, Blevins and Dailey’s daughter videotaped themselves forcing a child of approximately 2 years to inhale marijuana from a pipe.
