MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida special-needs teacher has been found guilty of abuse after being accused of putting hot sauce in a student's soda.
The Miami-Dade County jury found Sylvia Tagle guilty Tuesday after prosecutors claimed she laced the boy's, who has autism, drink in order to "teach the student a lesson."
Tagle claimed the boy grabbed the soda from her desk when she was with other students.
Jurors found Tagle not guilty of three other charges, including pulling a student’s hair.
Tagle maintains her innocence.
Her attorney said Tagle is a strict but dedicated teacher.
The Florida teacher faces a maximum of five years in jail and will be sentenced in early October.
