A.G. Cordray To Probe County Auditor

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CLEVELAND -- Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray will conduct a special investigation of a top political leader in the state's most populous county.

The Plain Dealer reported Friday that Cordray's decision to investigate Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo's office came after pleas from other county officials to get involved. Cordray planned to hold a news conference to announce the inquiry.

Russo is at the center of a wide-ranging federal corruption probe that began last year when federal agents raided the homes and offices of Russo and county Commissioner Jimmy Dimora. Both men have not been charged and deny wrongdoing.

A top aide to Russo was arrested and accused last week of funneling about $1.2 million in cash bribes to her boss. Prosecutors say Santina Klimkowski also took $154,000 in kickbacks from a company hired to handle commercial appraisals in the county.
