NEWARK, Ohio -- A woman was killed and a firefighter was injured in a Newark house fire Monday night.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Fire crews were called to an apartment fire at 185 Buckingham St. Apt. A at about 5:50 p.m.
The fire was contained in about 12 minutes.
State fire marshal investigators were called to the scene because of an apparent series of arsons in the area.
After several hours, investigators concluded the fire appeared to have been an accident, not arson, and that cigarettes could be to blame.
The exact cause of the fire was not determined, though.
The fire was contained to the living room, and other units weren’t damaged.
Authorities later identified the woman who died in the fire as 59-year-old Kathy Sturgis.
The name of the injured firefighter was not immediately available.
