Ohio Jobs Lost From Uranium Enrichment Plant

»  Comments | Post a Comment

BETHESDA, Md. - A company says nearly 1,000 workers have lost their jobs since the government decided to hold off on a loan guarantee for a uranium-enrichment plant in southern Ohio.

USEC Incorporated suspended work on the project in August after the Energy Department's decision regarding the American Centrifuge plant in Piketon. Officials delayed a final review of the company's application for a $2 billion loan guarantee.

USEC said yesterday that about 120 of its employees and more than 850 workers for suppliers have lost jobs in eight states, including Ohio.

The company says it hopes to update its application for the loan guarantee by early next year.
