DELAWARE, Ohio -- A common sales tactic known informally as the White Van Speaker Scheme appears to be continuing in Central Ohio -- five months after NBC 4 first reported about the issue.
Mike, an NBC 4 viewer, said he let greed get the better of his judgment.
Mike said he paid $800 to two men who approached him in a grocery store parking lot in Delaware last week.
Out of coincidence, he needed stereo speakers and the men sold him what they claimed was a $9,500 value for just $800.
The speakers worked, but Mike said they were very low quality.
"These guys looked very legitimate. The boxes were marked MSRP. It was embedded in the boxes. Everything looked legitimate. They had invoices," Mike said.
Even Mike now acknowledges that if salesmen approach you in a parking lot with an offer that seems too good to be true, it usually is.
