WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. -- A local woman drowns while swimming at night at a North Carolina beach.

Multiple media outlets reported that 45-year-old Lisa Shea, 45, of Gahanna, Ohio, was in the water in Wrightsville Beach with family members about 8:45 p.m. Sunday when they lost sight of her.

Shea was found unresponsive about 10 minutes later.

Police and medical personnel were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead about 9:20 p.m.

Fire Chief Frank Smith says lifeguards went off duty at 5 p.m. and beach patrols stopped at 7 p.m.

Smith says cautionary yellow flags were flying Sunday because of the National Weather Service's forecast for moderate rip current risk and choppy surf conditions.
