The Ohio Supreme Court says the number new cases filed in Ohio courts last year was the lowest in a decade.
All told, 2,972,939 new cases were filed in 2009, down 8 percent from 2008, according to figures released Thursday.
The decline was attributed largely to a drop in the number of traffic cases filed in municipal and county courts. Such cases make up the bulk of all cases filed statewide. New abuse, neglect, and dependency cases were also at a low for the decade, according to the court's statistical summary.
But the court said the number of new domestic violence cases filed last year was the highest in the decade.
