Parents of students attending Columbus City Schools should have received back-to-school information fliers and snap-pull envelopes with transporation information by mid-August.
The information included bus-stop information, pick-up and drop-off times and locations.
"We had 1466 bus stops, and we've gone down to about 205 right now. That includes all the open Columbus City Schoools, as well as 75 stops we deemed hazardous," said Steve Simmons, Director of Transportation for Columbus City Schools.
Simmons said he wants parents to make sure students know the rules of the bus stop: To stay away from the curb, and to watch the bus driver for hand signals before boarding the bus.
The school district has 543 buses, including 261 new, cleaner-burning buses.
Between 13,000 and 15,000 high-school students are eligible to ride Columbus City School buses.
High-school students must now go to the closest open Columbus City School for the bus stops, regardless of whether it's a middle school or elementary school.
Sharon Leatherwood registered her daughter at Whetstone High School and said she doesn't mind the bus stop changes.
"There's a school that's really close to where I live," she said. "An elementary school. So it's just right around the corner. So it won't be a problem for my daughter."
Leatherwood is just glad school is beginning.
"Very happy. It's time. I need some peace," she said.
Information is available on the district website for high-school bus stop locations, safety tips and regulations.
School starts Wednesday, Aug. 25.
