HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A driver is killed when a semi goes off I-270, rolls and catches fire Sunday evening.
NBC 4 reports with the FAST FACTS from the Franklin County sheriff's office.
A tractor-trailer, carrying large metal rods on a flatbed trailer, was traveling westbound on Interstate 270 at about 7 p.m. Sunday.
The semi went off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, rolled over and caught on fire.
The semi driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not identified immediately.
The semi came to a stop in a field behind Fisher’s Greenhouse, near Parsons Road, in Hamilton Township.
The greenhouse owner told NBC 4 he thought the crash was thunder and went out to roll up his car windows. He saw the burning semi and ran over to help, but the heat drove him back.
No other vehicles were involved, and there weren't any additional occupants in the tractor-trailer.
I-270 southbound was restricted during crash cleanup and investigation.
The crash remained under investigation.
