Kasich Family Will Not Live At Governor's Mansion

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Governor-elect John Kasich's decision to stay at his Genoa Township home instead of living at the Governor's Residence in Bexley makes only the second time that a governor has not lived at the Parkview address.

One of the main reasons for staying in the neighborhood was so that his daughters can be closer to their school.

Neighbors that live near the Kasichs say they understand why they want to stay.

"Since I moved in, we have lots of youngsters. It's just a marvelous place for them to be," said neighbor Nancy Peebles.

Other neighbors like Kristy Harrison, who recently moved into the neighborhood, say they have noticed the extra security around the area, but don't seem to mind it.

"My husband and I joke with our friends that we live on the safest street in Ohio. We don't seem to have a problem with the extra security. We feel it's kind of nice," explained Harrison.

But viewers like Jay from Powell wanted to know, "How much is it going to cost taxpayers for the new governor to upgrade his home (like security) to use as his official residence?"

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol task force report, the executive protection unit that protects the governor does not list the cost for security. It's stated that, that would imply the number of personnel they use and that would be a security risk. Patrol officials also said there is an annual budget for security, but because of the location for the Kasich family, details are still being worked out.

The governor's residence will now only be used for social functions.

Kasich's press secretary said the staffing at the Bexley residence will be at a minimum. They will still have a full-time groundskeeper and housekeeper, but there will be no cook and a second housekeeper will retire and that position will not be filled.
