COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A condemned Ohio inmate who killed a store owner and clerk in a 1994 robbery has been transferred from death row in Youngstown to the state death house in southern Ohio.
Mark Brown arrived at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, a day ahead of his scheduled execution.
The 37-year-old Brown was sentenced to die for the 1994 fatal shooting of Isam Salman, owner of Midway Market in Youngstown. He received a life term for killing clerk Hayder Al-Turk the same night.
Brown plans to ask the state Supreme Court for a new trial based on evidence he says proves he didn't shoot Salman.
Brown has also asked a federal appeals court to delay his execution while he challenges Ohio's new lethal injection procedure.
