HILLIARD, Ohio -- An elderly Hilliard woman whom police said was kidnapped said she actually went voluntarily, police said.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS from authorities.

Aba Maalin, 75, told Chicago law enforcement officials that she "voluntarily” went with her grandson, Osman Muhidin, and was not being held against her will.

Police reported Maalin as abducted Thursday night.

Witness saw at least three males forcibly place Maalin into a van and drive off. That was outside Maalin's Hilliard home Thursday afternoon. A family member who was a witness to the abduction recognized one of the abductors as Maalin's grandson.

Maalin was located at a hotel on Chicago's West Side at about 9:45 a.m. Friday.

Chicago police apprehended numerous subjects who were with Maalin.

Maalin, speaking through an interpreter, expressed a desire to return to the Seattle area until she could arrange for her return to her home country of Kenya.

The alleged suspects admitted to grabbing the victim and forcing her in the van but said they did that so other family members living at the Hilliard home would not have the opportunity to intercede.

Once learning the identity of her abductor, Maalin calmed down and went willing with her grandson.

Muhidin also told officials his grandmother had telephoned him earlier in the week asking him to move her back to Seattle.

Hilliard police continue to investigate the incident and attempt to understand the circumstances involving the reported abduction.

Difficulties as a result of language interpretation, cultural awareness, an internal family dispute and involvement of numerous multi-state jurisdictions have created a difficult situation for investigators.

Chicago officials said Maalin appears to be in good health, expresses a desire to remain with her grandson and is unwilling to pursue criminal charges.

Police officials will not be extraditing any suspects from Illinois at this time.

The investigation continues, and investigators from Hilliard police and the Columbus office of the FBI remain in contact with Chicago officials.
